Our Story

KAMS Charity, a nonprofit organization, was born during the August 2020 Covid pandemic. With no government support, folk artists, musicians, instrumentalists, and post-production workers suffered the most. Their mental health deteriorated rapidly amidst uncertainties. “We are surviving on savings, which will soon run thin if we don’t get work,” expressed several musicians dependent on live performances.

The uncertain circumstances not only impacted their financial health but also took an emotional toll. Many musicians sought alternative work as daily wage workers or laborers for survival. Amid the lockdown, music provided solace and coping mechanisms for those confined by Covid-19 restrictions. Sushree Srimati, a folk artist from Kendrapara, India, was out of work for months, desperate to sustain her home and family. In response, KAMS Charity formed a 501c3 nonprofit, envisioning global support for underprivileged artists. The organization introduced them to a worldwide audience, showcasing their talents virtually.

The virtual shows began in August 2020, inviting countries to showcase musical talents weekly. Throughout this journey, KAMS Charity supported orphanages like Adruta Children Home in Bhubaneswar, seeking funding for over 500 children. Virtual events were hosted to aid Adruta, and collaborations with the Odisha Society of America Health and Wellness Group provided ration support.

During the lockdown, struggling artists found relief in virtual parties with friends and acquaintances, alleviating mental stress. The ongoing efforts of KAMS Charity continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of underprivileged artists and communities.
